6 week appt

well things have been a little rough two weeks ago I was having problems holding anything down including water. I ended up having to go to the ER. They admitted me. The only thing they could find wrong was that I was dehydrated and that my potassium was very low. I was released the next day. Things have been ok but Im afraid to try solid foods since that is what I was having problems with. I saw my surgeon today and I have lost a total of 45 lbs (from discharge date) Woo hoo. She doesn't want to see me back for two months now. Post again later.

Ok time to update!!!! I had my open RNY on March 19, 2004. All went well. I was taken in early since my surgeon was ahead of schedule. The surgery took aprox. two hours. I woke up after being in recovery only 15 min. I was moved to a room about 30 min later. By 11:30 pm that night I did my "walk" I walked 1.5 laps on the floor. I had a central line, drain, and cath put in while I was in surgery. Dr.Hruska had the cath removed the day after surgery. My second day post op I walked 4 laps on the floor. I didn't experience any problems (sickness or pain) until my 3rd day post op. Right after Dr.Hruska decided to discharge me my BP dropped and I started getting nausous. So unfortunately I had to stay another night in the hospital. However all went well and I was discharged 4th day post op.The only pain I exprienced was when my drain was removed. It felt as if they were trying to pull my insides out through that hole. They had stopped my continous morphine when I was 2 days post op and left it to where I could get 1 gram every 10 min. but I didn't have a need for it. The week after I was discharged I was placed on  a full liquid diet. I then started a blenderized diet. At my two week appt I found out that I had lost 30 lbs. First I cried and then I told the nurse " I can use a reg dr scale now!!" I was so tickled. My staples also came out at this appt as well as me getting a B12 shot. My surgeon told me that since I had done well tolerating my diet that I could start on solid foods. So far so good. I will post again later....

My insurance case manager called me yesterday to tell me I have been approved. I call the surgeons office on Monday to get a date most likely will be in March Woo hoo

Woo hoo my surgeon's office has recieved everything they need. My name is in the submit pile and will be submitted this week. Everyone cross their fingers. :)

Update

I know it has been a while but things have been a bit hectic. First I got my shrink to write a letter of clerence to my surgeon. Second I have had both of my sleep studies. The first was on Dec 5th. During that one they hooked me up to all sorts of electrodes to monitor my sleep, breathing, snoring, etc... They also video taped me sleeping. When the tech woke me the next morning she said that I definately needed to come back for the second study. During the second one they not only did the same monitoring as before but they also hooked me up to a CPAP Machine. That was ok except that it made my nose so dry that it hurt. Today I met with the nurologist to go over the results. He said that I stopped breathing 11 times in an hr for a total of 69 times during the first study. My oxygen dropped to 80% also during that time and out of a possible 8 hrs of sleep I got 6. So he ordered a CPAP for me with a humidifier (for the dry nose problem). I go for my fitting tomorrow. The nurologist is going to fax the results to my surgeon. So now it will just be a waiting game for the insurance.

Well I have good news and sort of bad news and bad news. First of I went to see Dr. Hruska (my surgeon) the good news is that because of how good my overall health is Im an excellent canidate for the RNY surgery. The sort of bad news is that she is now booked up until January for surgery dates so even if I get my approval before my sleep studies I won't have a surgery date until after the new year. The really bad news is she misinterpreted my psych eval report so I have to have the shrink explain to her that he has cleared me for the surgery.
